The Mercusys MS118CP is a switch equipped with 16 Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps) and 2 Combo ports – selectable between SFP or 1G Ethernet. All Fast Ethernet ports provide PoE+ (802.3af/at) power output, with a maximum output of 15.4 W per port using 802.3af or 30 W per port using 802.3at. The total power budget (across all ports) is 190 W. The switch is unmanaged but supports various operating modes, including an Extend mode that increases PoE range up to 250 meters (at the cost of limiting bandwidth to 10 Mbps), and PoE Auto Recovery, which automatically restarts connected devices if they stop responding. The MS118CP features a rack-mountable 19" enclosure and uses active cooling. Inside the housing, there is a built-in AC/DC power supply.
16 Fast Ethernet Ports, 2 Combo Ports (Gigabit Ethernet / SFP)
The switch is equipped with 16 Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps) and 2 Combo ports – offering a choice between Gigabit Ethernet or SFP. The two 1 Gbps interfaces are ideal for cascading connections between devices. The inclusion of SFP slots allows the MS118CP to be connected over distances greater than 100 meters, if needed.
16 PoE+ Outputs, 190 W Power Budget
All Fast Ethernet ports (1–16) feature PoE+ (802.3af/at) power output. This allows you to transmit both data and power over a single Ethernet cable. The maximum power per port depends on the standard used: 15.4 W with 802.3af or 30 W with 802.3at. The total maximum power budget across all ports is 190 W, which is sufficient to power up to 16 IP cameras, depending on their individual power consumption.
Extend Mode
In Extend mode, a selected section of ports (the device is divided into two sections: 1–8 / 9–16) supports Long-Range transmission with PoE reach of up to 250 meters. The bandwidth of the ports set to this mode is reduced to 10 Mbps. It's important to note that the actual range largely depends on the quality of the cabling used.
Port Isolation
When port isolation mode is enabled, interfaces 1–16 cannot communicate with each other and can only transmit data to the Combo ports. This mode is designed to enhance network security.
Priority Mode
Another available mode – Priority – assigns a higher transmission priority to ports 1–8.
PoE Auto Recovery
Auto Recovery is a very important mode that significantly impacts the network and can greatly simplify its maintenance. When this mode is enabled, the switch will automatically restart PoE-powered devices that stop responding. This means that if one of your cameras freezes, you won’t have to go on-site to manually reboot it.
Plug & play
The offered product is unmanaged and requires no initial configuration. It is ready for use immediately after being powered on. The Ethernet ports support automatic speed negotiation and MDI/MDIX crossover. The device is very easy to use and does not require any specialized knowledge from the user.
19" Rack-Mountable Enclosure, Integrated Power Supply
The MS118CP features a 19" rack-mountable enclosure. Inside the housing is an integrated AC/DC power supply, which connects to a power source using a standard computer power cable. The manufacturer has implemented active cooling – the switch is equipped with 2 fans.
